North Texas developer Jackson-Shaw and Tucson-based Holualoa Companies held a groundbreaking event May 21 on a new dual-branded AC Hotel by Marriott North Phoenix at Norterra and Element by Westin North Phoenix at Norterra.

The two hotels connected under one roof are located close to the Shops at Norterra, near the northeast corner of West Happy Valley Road and Norterra Parkway.

The property is expected to open in late 2025. This dual-brand hotel is specifically intended to fill the burgeoning business demands of the exploding North Black Canyon corridor caused by the recent development of the TSMC semiconductor plant and its supplier companies.

Mayor Kate Gallego, Councilwoman Ann O’Brien and other community leaders attended the event. Additionally, two local nonprofits – St. Vincent de Paul and the Phoenix Police Foundation – received contributions of $5,000 each to celebrate the start of the project and the development team’s commitment to the community.

Together, sharing one address, the four-story development will feature a total of 274 high-quality guest rooms. At the AC Hotel by Marriott North Phoenix at Norterra, 179 guest rooms feature the brand’s clean and simple design aesthetic that marry sophisticated European style with a distinct modern feel. The Element by Westin North Phoenix at Norterra includes 95 rooms, offering the essentials of balanced travel for the longer-stay guest without compromising comfort and design, according to the company.

The development will feature an 8,000-square-foot convening center and ballroom, two deluxe suites, two group communal rooms, a state-of-the-art fitness center and a resort-style courtyard with a saline pool, heated spa and event lawn. The 160,133-square-foot building is on three acres. It is expected to provide 60 full-time and 20 part-time jobs.

The hotel is being developed in partnership with Jackson-Shaw and Holualoa Companies. Simmons Bank is providing construction financing, Layton Construction is the general contractor, Cooper Carry is the architect and DiLeonardo is the interior designer.
